Memorial Day

May 16, 2012 As we get closer to Memorial Day, my thoughts are turned towards the original intent of the day. To honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms and too that end may I add my thanks to those who have died to protect our freedoms. I did not serve in the armed forces myself but have always admired and respected those who have. My Uncle Edward was killed outside of Paris just days before the liberation of Paris in WWII. I never knew him, my father also served in WWII but he passed away before I could ask him about my Uncle. I was pleased to interview 2 ladies who are working with THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT in Cache Valley. They are having a fund raiser this Friday at the Cache County Courthouse , please listen to the interview and help anyway you can For more info the website is mclacachevalleyutah.com Thanks Dave

Mother's Day

May 9th 2012 As Mother’s day approaches this Sunday I wanted to say thanks to all the women in my life. My Mother, Martha Arlene Denton raised me and my 4 older sisters after my Father died when I was just four years old. She had an 8th grade education and went back to get her GED and went on to Nursing school to become an LPN and graduated at the top of her class. We didn’t have much growing up but she did the best she could do and I think did a great job! My mom died in 1991 and is missed. The other women in my life my 4 sisters and my wife Teresa are such an important part of who I am. I know some of you will say “HEY IS THAT A GOOD THING”. But it is. Here are some fictional quotes about Mother’s Day WHAT FAMOUS MOTHERS SAID • Paul Revere's Mother -- "I don't care where you think you have to go, young man. Midnight is past your curfew!" • Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary's Mother -- "I don't mind you having a garden, Mary, but does it have to be growing under your bed?" • Mona Lisa's Mother -- "After all that money your father and I spent on braces, Mona, that's the biggest smile you can give us?" • Humpty Dumpty's Mother -- "Humpty, If I've told you once, I've told you a hundred times not to sit on that wall. But would you listen to me? Noooo!" • Columbus' Mother -- "I don't care what you've discovered, Christopher. You still could have written!" • Babe Ruth's Mother -- "Babe, how many times have I told you -- quit playing ball in the house! That's the third broken window this week!" • Michelangelo's Mother -- "Mike, can't you paint on walls like other children? Do you have any idea how hard it is to get that stuff off the ceiling?" • Napoleon's Mother -- "All right, Napoleon. If you aren't hiding your report card inside your jacket, then take your hand out of there and prove it!" Happy Mother’s Day from Dave

Relay for life

May 4th 2012 As many of you know I found out last June I have Prostrate Cancer. I thank God every day that I found out early and that through treatment my PSA level has fallen from 5.1 to 1.2 since my treatment in October of 2011. I have a dear friend who has fought the fight for years with such dignity and grace that I am constantly amazed by her and her family. Such an inspiration, for all those who know her, I will not tell her name here because that is not my reason for writing these words. My purpose is to encourage you to get tested when your doctors recommend. It’s a personal choice but one that even if it is “bad news” could save your life or the life of a loved one. There are a couple of events that are coming up in Northern Utah that will help raise much needed funds for the American Cancer society. Here is the audio of an interview I conducted with Stacy Moss with the Cache Valley Relay for life and Debbie Nieurenhoff about the Box Elder county Relay for life. Please take a few minutes to listen and then ask yourself how you can help. To join the relay in Cache Valley call Roger Barker at 435-770-2582 or go to cachevallrelay.org To join the relay in Box Elder county call Debbie at 435-225-2118

WOW WHAT A WEEK

April 27th This has been an interesting week at KOOL 103.9! The Spring Green Money Machine gave away lots of money to Lindsay Jensen, Nick Boehme, Robert Wiley, and Jesse Hyer. Suzy Swartz won the 250 dollar certificate to use at Millers Northern Utah Glass. We still have 3 weeks to go on the Spring Green Money Machine and will play at 6 30, 7 30, 8:30 and 9:30 am. And we have 2 weekly prizes to giveaway, a 250 dollar shopping spree at Coppin’s Hallmark, or a Lane recliner from U and I furniture. Thursday we talked about the chances of the Utah Jazz to win in the NBA playoffs, most of you thought the young Jazz will win 1 or 2 games but think the Spurs will win the series. Friday’s my 3 songs winner from Pier 49 Pizza was Ashley Merlich and she picked out 3 great songs. If I fell, Can’t you here my heartbeat, and I couldn’t live without your love. You can hear all 3 songs in the blog section on KOOL.FM. You can also check out past programs there too. Wednesday’s video of the day The Beach Boys with their new song “That’s why god made the radio”. It was so good I wanted to put it here on this blog! Enjoy. Some exciting things are coming soon I can’t wait to tell you about them. Thanks for listening Dave

Special Tribute To Dick Clark

April 19th I just wanted to add a few thoughts about the passing of Dick Clark. I grew up watching American Bandstand, New Year’s Rocking Eve, The Pyramid game show and all the other great productions he was known for. When I found out on Wednesday I texted several friends and family members about his death and my sister Judy texted back and her message was about as good as I could ever say “There goes another bit of our youth”. The influence Dick Clark had on our lives is immense from the Bandstand, The American Music Awards, New Year’s Rocking Eve and all the programs his company produced. He was one of a kind!!! The entertainment world’s reaction to Dick Clark’s passing flooded social and traditional media yesterday. Ann Wilson of Heart tweeted, “Back in the 1960’s the pop culture catch-phrase was ‘Never trust anyone over 30.’ Dick Clark was trustworthy all the way home. Rock on Sir!” Former MTV executive Van Toffler, responsible for creating shows such as Total Request Live, said, “Bandstand is clearly the precursor to T.R.L. It was a more modern, interactive version of it… If you wanted to promote a record and connect to young people, you had to do Bandstand. That led to MTV and T.R.L., without a doubt.” President Barack Obama issued a statement regarding the passing of Clark, saying, “[First Lady] Michelle and I are saddened to hear about the passing of Dick Clark. With American Bandstand, he introduced decades’ worth of viewers to the music of our times. As we say a final ‘so long’ to Dick Clark, America’s oldest teenager, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends – which number far more than he knew.” Here is a musical tribute to Dick Clark that I produced that has several stars talking about Mr. Clark. You will hear comments from Chubby Checker, Mike Love of the Beach Boys, Peter Frampton and more. Hope you enjoy it. Dave

A two-and-a-half hour edited version of the ceremony will be aired on HBO on May 5th. I have nothing but respect for those in the Hall but sometimes wonder about the process of selection. Here is a list of names not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.Chubby Checker, Kiss, Deep Purple, The Guess Who, Chicago, The Steve Miller Band, 3 Dog Night, Heart, The Moody Blues, The Doobie Brothers, The Monkee's, War, Todd Rundgren, Boston, The Commodores, and Styx.I'm sure there are many more that deserve to be in the hall, however the powers that be seem to have an ax to grind against some of these acts. Hopefully, in the future some if not all these acts will be honored! Dave Denton
